The
Fire Protection Association Australia (FPAA) is the peak national
body representing the interests of the fire protection industry
and promoting fire safety. It was founded in 1997 following the
merger of the Fire Protection Industry Association of Australia
(FPIAA) and the Australian Fire Protection Association (AFPA).
Following
an initial appoinment as an industry liaison officer, he was promoted
to national policy manager and concurrently held the appointment
of Victorian executive officer. In 1998 he was further promoted
to the role of national Assistant Executive Director. During this
time his accomplishments included being the principal author of
the industry's code of practice, oversight of industry efforts to
reduce the use of ozone depleting gaseous fire suppression agents
and the first Memorandum of Understanding with Standards Australia.
In
order to strengthen links between FPAA and the US National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA), Troy was seconded to the NFPA offices
in Boston. He also travelled to the United Kingdom and New Zealand
to promote Australia's fire protection industry's expertise in preventing
ozone layer depletion.
Troy
